Over six sessions we will use a gel plate and acrylic paint to create amazing monoprints without a press. It’s a brilliant way to make art prints and also to produce collage papers and backgrounds that can be developed further. We’ll explore mark making on the plate, creating and using masks and stencils, wax resist transfer, texturing, overlaying colours etc.You will need your own gel plate and brayer.

The three crayons used for this way of working on a toned paper, are traditionally white; terracotta or sanguine; and a sepia or black conté crayon. Bring these or similar colours in conté crayon, hard pastels or pastel pencils. Bring your own reference, or you may be drawing one of my ancestors! We’ll reference drawings by Watteau, so if your reference has a distinctive hair style or hat, that would be perfect.
